The first event of the 2026 SB20 Italian League concluded in Anzio, marking a milestone for the Class that had remained inactive in Italy for several years. The relaunch of the circuit – structured across four events this season – shows the commitment to rebuild and strengthen the SB20 presence within the Italian sailing landscape.
The season opener brought together twelve teams – an encouraging turnout for the first event! Weather conditions over the weekend proved technically demanding and racing was not possible on one of the scheduled days. Nevertheless, the Race Committee successfully completed five races, completing a valid regatta.
At the conclusion of racing, the Notaro Team helmed by Luca Domenici secured overall victory. Second place went to Mario Aquila’s team, with Gabriele Guiducci and his team – Alessandro Di Ciaccio, Giulia Di Tullio and Niccolò Bertola – completing the podium in third.
Beyond the results, what stood out most was the atmosphere both on the water and ashore. Enthusiasm, collaboration and a shared ambition to rebuild the Class defined this opening event, offering promising signs for the remaining three events in the series. Special thanks go to Circolo Velico Roma for its hospitality and organisation, as well as to Devoti Sailing and Luca Devoti for their support in relaunching the class and their commitment to its continued growth.
The next event in March of the series will take the fleet to Formia near Gaeta – historic, picturesque coastal city in the Lazio region of central Italy. The National Championship is scheduled to take place in September in Castiglione della Pescaia, a coastal town in Tuscany, just south of Punta Ala. The year will conclude in Anzio with the 3rd stage of the 2026 SB20 Italian league in November.
