8-MONTHS COUNTDOWN TO THE SB20 WORLDS 2025

CLASS CAPTAIN’S REPORT

Dear Sailors, Dear Friends,

We are counting down to the SB20 2025 World Championships in Singapore! We are only 8 months away and preparations are in full swing. Every SB20 in Singapore needs to be on the water – all the boats at Raffles Marina, the whole SSF fleet, SAFYC as we welcome sailors from all over the world! There are still boats looking for teams and teams looking for boats! Let us know if we can help in any way! If there is anyone who does not (for whatever unimaginable reason!) planning to race in January – do let us know and we will make sure someone else covers for you!

The logistics, social agenda and race organisation are coming together step by step, but a lot of work remains – it’s all hands on deck! Top priority right now is to get our boats in order. Our resident master of the rules of the seas Mr. Ewan McEwan is leading the effort of measurement and one-design compliance. During the summer months, we will organise a program to get every boat ready, compliant and measured. Spare parts, glass fibre (including repairs service!) and sails are as always available from Constant Wind!

Back at base Raffles Marina, the fleet is now back together, with all the boats home from the Dubai adventures, including two new boats ‘The Incident’ (3802) and Team Tara’s new boat (3800). We just completed the Mayhem Regatta this past weekend, which caps off the spring circuit together with Club Racing. It was fantastic to see new names on the podium! All details are of course available in the regatta report, which you read at your own peril.

We are also looking forward to the inaugural SB20 Singapore Youth Championships in June! This great initiative is a testament that the future is bright for the class and for sailing in Singapore. I am sure that our own youth teams will be podium contenders for the youth trophy (and perhaps even the main trophy too!) next year!

We are also welcoming new owners! Sea U Later is now under Sebastian Zilms ownership and Xtra Mile 2 has recently joined Steve Kennedy’s and Hi-Techs growing fleet – where it will be well looked after until it finds a new owner! The backbone of the class are active owners who get their boats out on the water – and we need more of them! Let us know if you want to become one.
We have a busy year ahead and I look forward to seeing many of you down on the dock in the weeks to come!

Your Class Captain, Magnus
